About our potentials and habitual behaviour

There is a story about an office worker. Getting up every morning going to work, walking the same route as always. On the route is located a clock shop, where a big watch is displayed in the window. As usual he does what he always do. The man stops up and adjust his wrist watch to match the clock in the window.
Now - one morning the owner of the store comes out and ask the man what he is doing. I am adjusting my own watch to match the time on your clock, he answeres. The owner looks at him oddly and asks why he would do that, since the clock in the window has been out of order in 10 years and always show the same time.

It is said that we as humans statistically uses no more than 10% of our potential. That is why the people who follow the followers never make it to at decent level of true succes in their lives, and why wealth belongs to those few that do not go with the current of others. They learn to think for them selves instead.

Wealth and powerty

To be rich or poor? How would you define ít? If wealth is owning stuff then powerty would be the opposite. There is an analoge here. A story. Goes like this: At the time the Buddha lived there was a man that did not really like or understand the Buddha. Hence he decided to confront the Buddha to tell him off. He said some nasty things face to face. Buddha did not answer. The man continued his verbal assaults though.
At last, the man was bewildered. He asked the Buddha why would he not answer? Then Buddha said that if someone gives you a gift and you refuse to receive that gift, then who does the gift belong to?
The man said that the gift would then belong to the giver. He turned and left.

What you give so shall you receive. That man had a lot of money, but was poor.
There is a lot of these stories. Even today. Look for them. To be continued. Hope some of you respond.

Take care. See you later

A uniqie ability

Today I’m going to write a bit about abilities.
We all have something we are good at, and some we aren’t.
How do you know what to do with your life?

"Find all the things you suck at, and don’t do ‘em.
At some point you’ll only have the things left you are good at doing.
And then you know what to do with your life."

Another approach would be to reverse the process.
First, find out what you are good at, and then work on the other things.

I believe in development. But I also believe in a unique ability.
We all have one. But we do not all know what it is.
And that is the purpose of this article, to help you find that unique ability.

David Deida wrote in his book “The way of the superior man”;

Each of us is born with a potential unique ability that has four characteristics:

1) It is a superior ability that other people notice and value.
2) We love doing it, and want to do it as much as possible.
3) It is energizing both for us and others around us.
4) We keep getting better, never running out of possibilities for improvement.

These are the four characteristics of David Deida’s idea of superior ability.
I recommend that you spend a bit of time thinking of this. Especially if you are the slightest bit interested, in finding your life purpose.

This will not give you the answer to the question “what is my purpose”, but it will get you some of the way. When you realize your superior ability, and welcome it into your life, then when your are ready to start the progress of finding your purpose, you’ll already have travelled a great distance towards your goal.

Think about this.
If you really think this through, you may come to a realisation, which could be a turning point in your life.
I did.

Overcoming fears

“The way it works is, you do the thing you're scared shitless of, and you get the courage AFTER
you do it, not before you do it.” (“Archie Gates” in “Three kings”).

One thing is for sure when we are talking about courage. When you spend an amount of energy doing something you are afraid of, regardless of the outcome, the energy used on performing this particular action, transforms into self-esteem energy afterwards. Regardless of the result.

It is not the result, but the action itself that counts.
Sure, there are some actions better than others, and it is up to your decision skill, to determinate what action are best and most valuable in the current situation, but we’ll leave that to another time.

And basically that is all there is to it.
Look at it this way, if you are afraid of a certain thing, let’s say public speaking. Then the first step is to make a decision to actually overcoming your fear, and make a public speech (don’t go and make speech on national television or something else, that’ll make you blackout, start with a few people, at a birthday party or something).
First time you do it, you will probably shake all over the body and have a hard time concentrating, but afterwards (assuming you’re still alive…), you’ll have a feeling of overcoming both your fears and your mind. You’ll have a feeling of accomplishment, and I bet you’ll feel great, regardless of the outcome.
Remember the saying “What doesn’t kill you, will make you stronger”?
In terms of personal development, this is so very true. Unfortunately it doesn’t apply to all areas of life. Smoking and drinking for instance.

Then take your personal challenge a step up, make a speech in front of 20 instead of 10, and keep advancing…
After you’ve done 10-15-20 times, you won’t fear it anymore. Because you know you can and that it won’t kill you.
